Welcome to Year 3
Year 3 is the start of the children’s learning journey in Key Stage 2 and they will continue to engage with an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum.
At Brindishe Schools, we have developed a curriculum overview for each year group which details the focus for each subject in each half term. Please click on the Year 3 curriculum overview below to find out more:
English
Reading remains key; we are a reading school and know that reading for pleasure can be directly linked to children's success throughout their time at school and even into adulthood. In Year 3, the children will continue to think deeply about their reading whether they are taking part in a reading lesson or reading independently. They will focus on developing their understanding of a text and building the habits that make confident and keen readers. You can find out more about supporting your child’s reading at Key Stage 2 by clicking on the link below.
In writing the children will focus on creativity and different writing styles in both their fiction and non-fiction writing. They will continue to explore the role of grammar and punctuation in their writing as well as focus on different spelling patterns. There are statutory spelling lists for children in Year 3 and Year 4 which you find below.

Maths
In Year 3 our children continue to develop their understanding of number and calculate with formal written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They will continue to learn about fractions as well as different shapes, angles and using the 24-hour clock. The children will also develop their times table knowledge by recapping their understanding of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables before moving on to the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
